Whitehaven B Vs Windscale B

Playing at 5 Dave Irving got Whitehaven off to a good start with a 9-4, 9-2, 9-6 win against visiting team captain Jim Irving. Winning the 1st two games relatively comfortably, Dave was made to work a little harder for the third as Jim stole a 6-0 lead, but the younger man had enough in reserve to recover and win.

Paul Ditchburn looked like restoring parity winning his 1st game 9-2.Chris Stephenson, one of Whitehaven's most promising youngsters had other ideas battling back to win the next three games, 10-9, 9-5, 9-5.

At 2 games up, Mark Frain had a chance to secure the match for Whitehaven. Out of the 1st team squad through injury and returning through the B team Mark on paper looked a safe bet at 3. 'Scales' had new boy Dave Johnston at 3, so this was surely going to be a stern test.Dave looked more than up to it winning the opening 2 games 9-3, 9-4. Mark fought back well to win the next 2 games 9-3, 9-4 but was unable to sustain the resurgence as Dave took the final and deciding game 9-2.

'Scales' continued the fight back with a resounding 9-7, 9-0, 9-5 win by 'Mr. Reliable' Mike Jenkins, despite a spirited performance from Steve Sharp.

With the match all square 'Havens' Paul Sharp was unable to contain young James Thompson. A quick fire 9-7, 9-5, 9-1 result won the match for Windscale. This was a particularly good win for 'Scales' against arguably the strongest team Whitehaven could field.
