Wigton B 5 Windscale B 18

Having lost badly at home to Wigton, 'Scales' were not expecting to take much from this encounter.

Vic Williamson won his opening game 10-9 but was unable to stop a resurgent Brian Armstrong winning the next 3 games 9-6, 9-5, 9-7 to give Wigton the lead. Vic's recent run of losses coincides with his promotion to captaincy but then so has the teams winning run.

Restoring parity the ever-reliable Mike Jenkins had a comfortable opener winning 9-1, but was made to fight all the way by young Lewis Jarman before he took the next 2 games 9-6, 9-7.

Following the example set by 'Jenks', 'Scales' new boy Dave Johns opened with a 9-0 followed by a 9-6, 9-4 to give the Egremont outfit a surprise lead.

James Salisbury made a valiant attempt to get Wigton back to parity. Losing the opener 9-4 to 'Scales' John Banks, he made a spirited recovery taking the lead with 9-5, 9-8 results. As on many previous occasions 'Banksy' secured the match and the points for 'Scales' fighting back to win the remaining 2 games 4-9, 9-1.

James 'Turbo' Thompson, 'Scales' number 1 finished the evening off with an emphatic 9-4, 9-3, 9-5 win against Wigtons Keith Warwick. In this, his first full season of county league squash young James has progressed up the team order with aplomb. One of the clubs best young prospects, the benefits of good coaching are now self-evident.
