Windscale C v North Lakes
Sunday 16 May 2004
Mike Naylor was first on for Windscale playing a very experienced Chris Malpas. Winning the first two games 9-7, 9-7 Mike Looked decidedly tired and had to dig deep to find the energy to win the next game 9-5. This win now extends Mike's unbeaten run to 9. With only a hand full of games remaining an unbeaten season is still on the cards for Mike.
Adrian Tindas then squared the match beating Windscale's Paul Ditchburn 3-1, in a hard fought physical encounter. Adrian won the first 10-8, ' Ditchy' won the next 9-2. The next two games both went to Adrian 9-7, 9-7.
Jeff Smith then recovered the lead for Windscale in a 5 setter against John Scott. Losing the first 9-5 but recovering to win the next two 9-1, 9-3 Jeff looked to have got the situation well under control.
As so often in these situations, for whatever reason ' under control' becomes lost control, and John given the opportunity recovers to win the next game 9-0! With the result resting on the final game Jeff managed to recover the ascendancy winning this one 9-3.
In the second 5 setter of the evening Windscale's Dave Jackman was on the wrong end of a 9-6,7-9, 9-5, 9-10, 7-9 result against Chris Taylor. This was a game that could have gone either way as both players gave it 100%. With the match now resting at 2 games each the result was all down to the final game.
For Windscale it was young John Banks, and for North Lakes Gary Dudson. Gary won the first 9-2 and looked comfortable. Gary won the second 9-6 but looked less comfortable. It was then a case of ' cometh the hour cometh the man'. The superior fitness of the Windscale's man now came to the fore. Winning the next game 9-3 John Banks took charge, winning the next 9-5 to turn the game around. Fast running out of energy, Garry fought on gamely but the resurgency of young 'Banksy' won the day.
In winning the final game of the evening 9-4 to secure the match result for Windscale 'Banksy' showed maturity beyond his years.
