At the recent Workington squash graded competition a record entry was assured as Windscale Squash Club provided one third of the total entries. The competition included entrants from Barrow in the south of the county to as far north as Wigton, and all the competitors played a knockout format in grades from F2 up to C1 standard. Beginners as well as many county players played with enthusiasm and spirit and all the games were played in a sporting manner. Windscales finalists were as follows:

E1 Winner, J Brownbridge. E2 Plate Winner, J Holliday, Plate R-up, M Hobbs. F1 R-up, L Weighman. F1 Plate Winner, S Sim, Plate R-up, S Nichol. F2 Winner, R Singleton. F2 Plate Winner, B Brownbridge.

Overall Windscales managed to produce 11 finalists, out of their 19 entrants. Many of these players were playing in their first county competition, having only taken up squash in the last 9 months. This is testament to the good work going on at Windscales, and the dedication of the juniors, along with Linda Winder and her junior coaching group. Further success is hoped for in this weekends County competition at Carlisle, good luck to everyone, and remember to play with a smile on your face.
