Windscale C still on target for double

TWO great results for Windscale Squash Club's C and B teams were only tempered by a narrow defeat for the A team down at Dalton.

The C team kept up their impressive run of late with a ruthless maximum 20 points win over an experienced Brampton team dropping only one point in the process.

Richard Dobson returned to beat Alan Dodd 3-0, John Crichton got past the experienced Bill Armstrong 3-0 and Steve Walker did enough to defeat Alan Rutherford 3-0.

Another routine 3-0 win for Ian Richardson against Graham Coulthard was followed by another good effort by Andy Kelly who completed the double over Alan Sykes for the season with an excellent 3-0 performance.

With only three games to go this win maintained the narrow gap at the top of table as Windscale C kept up their challenge for a league and cup double.

Meanwhile, in the premier division, Windscale B, after a great win over title leaders and defending champions Wigton the previous week, whitewashed their opponents from Kendal A to avenge an earlier away defeat in the season.

In a 20-0 victory highlights of the night were a 3-0 win for Hudson Irving over Chris Greenwood while Paul Armstrong lost only seven points to Erik Worsley in a comprehensive display.

Gavin Scott was always on top against a plucky Guy Huxtable while Paul Messenger struggled to win the first game over Shaun Doran before gaining control to win the second and third.

The final game saw another win for Sean Jenkinson now unbeaten in the league since the turn of the year despite the efforts of Graham Braithwaite in an entertaining 3-0 game.

This win keeps the B team in third place in the league.

The A team, on their travels to the south of the county, lost the chance to join the B team near the business end of the table by letting slip a 2-0 lead to eventually lose 3-2 to Dalton.

A great start from Chris Clark 3-0 winner over Paul Sandringham and Kevin Preston 3-1 over Dave Beanman should have been followed by a 3-1 win for Linda Winder over her nemesis Tom Herd.

But she failed to convert any of the match balls she had in the fourth game Tom eventually winning the decider 9-6.

Michael Hetherington lost 3-1 over a returning to fitness Dean Ellis and at number one, Chris Bowyer gained revenge over Liam Barrett on his own court.

A narrow 15-9 win was probably just enough to get Dalton off the bottom of the table in what is proving to be a very competitive division.
