Juniors from all parts of the county gathered at the sports centre on Saturday when Whitehaven Junior Squash Club hosted Open and Graded Tournaments.

A total of 70 entries represented junior squash clubs from Whitehaven, Windscale, Workington, Wigton, Carlisle and Furness.

Top honours went to Whitehaven Junior Bob Priestley who overpowered Josh Rubacs from Workington in the Under 17 Boys Open Final.

The Whitehaven girls cheered on Charlotte Irving in the Under 17 Girls Open Final, but she had to succumb to an in-form Sarah Worsick from the Carlisle club.

In the Under 15 Boys Open event there were some performances in the preliminary rounds worthy of a final, most notable of these were the five game matches between Owen Barrett from Windscale and James Worsick from Carlisle - both equally ranked No. 3 in the county - and the semi-final encounter between Whitehaven's Mitchell Parr and Freddie Simpson-Cassidy from Furness. The Windscale junior succeeded in his quest, going all the way with convincing wins over Ryan Doran (Whitehaven) in the semi-final and Freddie in the final.

The Under 15 Girls Open was a local affair with county ranked No. 2 Hannah Crichton from Windscale confirming her superiority over county ranked No. 3 Sarah Frain from Whitehaven.

Windscale juniors continued the winning streak with Adam Pearson achieving victory over club-mate Michael Hobbs in the Under 13 Boys Open Final.

Another thrilling spectacle that had onlookers enthralled was the five game match between Bradley Frain and Nathan Doran, both Whitehaven juniors, with Bradley using his guile to lift the Under 11 Boys Open Final winner's trophy.
