Windscale Ladies Cup Final Report

Windscale Ladies Squash team finished off a very successful season by recently adding the Ladies Cumbria Cup to their league success.

Having wrapped up the league title to become champions for the second year running, they travelled to Carlisle for the final of the cup to face the home team on their own courts, with a partisan crowd cheering the home team on.

First on at No 5 was Lynn Crichton (the mature lady of the team, donning the new strip to celebrate their league success) playing some very good squash, she kept her opponent "digging" the ball out of the back corners, and went on to a well deserved 3-0 win.

After that great start next on court was Cumbria Ladies Squash Player of the Year, Luisa McGregor at No 4, playing an experienced and wily opponent Luisa had a tough battle, but eventually her greater variety of shots and power won the match 3-2.

With close to two hundred spectators present No 3 Hannah Crichton was next on trying to emulate "mam", and she did with style, powering her way to an impressive 3-0 win to clinch the cup, and the double for Windscale.

Jessica Winder was at No 2 and although probably not at her best, she did enough to scrape a 3-2 victory after a dour struggle.

Lara Cooper at No 1, played arch-rival Rachel Kennon and had a titanic battle, with Lara's grit and never say die attitude keeping her in the match at 1-1, but then she faded a little over the remaining games to lose 1-3, leaving the final result Windscale 4 Carlisle 1.

Congratulations to the Ladies Team and to Cumbria Ladies Squash Player of the Year, Luisa McGregor
