Wigton Graded Competition Day 2 results

Four of Windscales juniors were in action today, in the girls under 11 event which saw 3 of our girls in action, and in the mixed under 13 event we had one representative. Following yesterdays successes where we had a Main competition runner-up and a Plate final winner the pressure was on to perform.

In the girls under 11's Zara Brannon, Ashton Telford and Kaitlyn Carruthers were the participants with two others in a 5 player round robin.

Zara Brannon - Copy.jpgZara Brannon was by far the least experienced player in the event, and although she struggled in her games she 'hung in there' and can be justifiably pleased with her days squash and introduction to competition squash. Her results were, lost to Michelle Tang 0-2, lost to Kaitlyn Carruthers 0-2, lost to Cody Sharp 1-2, and finally lost to Ashton Telford 0-2. A 'tough day' but one that she has gained valuable experience from.

Ashton Telford.jpgAshton Telford opened up with a replay of her play-off game at Carlisle the week before against her club-mate Kaitlyn Carruthers, and she lost again to her stronger opponent 0-2, she then beat Cody Sharp 2-0, lost to Michelle Tang 0-2, and then beat Zara Brannon 2-0 to finish 3rd in the group, qualifying her for the Plate final against Cody Sharp, who she again beat 2-0 to win the Plate final. This is fitting reward for the effort she is putting into her practice at the moment, and the improvement shows, well done.

Kaitlin Carruthers.jpgKaitlyn Carruthers beat Ashton Telford 2-0, then beat Cody Sharp also 2-0 and followed that up with another 2-0 win against Zara Brannon, putting her joint top of the group with the also unbeaten Michelle Tang to play. Kaitlyn couldn't upset the vastly more experienced Michelle and lost 0-2, but having finished 2nd overall that gave her a chance for revenge in the main final, alas Michelle again proved too strong and Kaitlyn lost 0-2 again to finish as the Main competition runner-up. Kaitlyn has good potential and is a more than able competitor, the harder it gets the more she 'gets stuck in', well done.

Brandon Groggins 1.jpgIn the mixed under 13 event group 'A', Brandon Groggins opened with a 1-2 deteat to George Kemp, then won 2-0 against Rachael Tang, beat Kieron Docherty 2-0, beat Adam Gill 2-0, and then lost to John Kemp 2-0, making Brandon 3rd in the group overall and putting him into the Plate final against Adam Gill. Surprisingly Brandon lost the first game having 'nilled' Adam earlier, but took the next two games to win the match 2 games to 1, and win the Plate final. Well done.

Overall, another relatively successful days squash with one Main competition runner-up, and two Plate winners, well done to you all.
