Fitness assessment for gym members

Last week 25 gym members put their bodies on the line and offered themselves to be tested by the gym staff, partly to find out 'their current fitness state' and partly as an early Christmas social with refreshments and a 'bite to eat', and a friendly chat if required, put on by the Club as a thank you for all their great efforts throughout the year.

This wasn't a military style testing routine, more a body health-check, to determine where the people were at 'fitness-wise', there were no cardio-vascular testing, only a couple of strength and flexibility tests, along with some general health testing.

The tests were conducted using the latest Body Fat Scales which measured, weight, body-mass-index (BMI), % body fat, % total body water, % muscle mass, % visceral fat, and basal metabolic rate. At another testing station Blood Pressure monitoring took place measuring systolic and diastolic pressures, as well as resting heart rate pressures.

Physical testing of 'sit-and-reach' flexibility, sit-ups and press-ups, as well as lung function were also carried out. Further future testing as a follow-up will be carried out in the New Year, where hopefully more of the gym members will 'put their bodies on the line', also the plans are being drawn up for similar testing involving the squash members at future sessions.
