Support Brians March for Heroes

Brian served for many years in the Army, 26 in total, which is a full military career and a bit more, retiring in 2003.  His old unit recently completed a tour in Afghanistan losing 13 people, with others returning with terrible injuries, 7 of which were amputees. It was whilst he was returning from a reunion where he'd heard of the accounts of the tour that he thought it was about time he 'pulled his finger out' and did something to support the Help For Heroes charity.Brian Atherton.jpg

His event is titled; March 4 Heroes Route 30.

It will involve him and a team of fellow bus drivers Marching the route of the number 30 bus service from Maryport to Thornhill, a distance of 24 miles. The team consisting of 2 girls and 7 lads have entered into the spirit of the event really well. Some of them not having done anything like this before, giving up their days off to train, to date completing 6, 8, 11 and 17 mile Marches to prepare for the big day on 19 March 2011.

Windscale Squash club has built up a fantastic rapport with the Army Squash team, having visited and played within the last few years at Sandhurst and Leyburn, as well as the Army establishing an annual fixture at Windscale. Some of the squash team players have recently again been on a tour of duty overseas, and Joe Rawsthorn is going out again next year. With this in mind I would be very grateful for any support that the club and the membership may be able to offer. There is sponsorship form on the SASRA notice board in the club, or donations can be made online at www.bmycharity.com/March4HeroesRoute30
