Triple DOUBLE for Windscale Ladies team

Windscale Ladies complete the 'Treble Double'

After winning the Cumbria Ladies County League for the third year in a row, Windscale Ladies were hoping to make it a third year running in the Club Knockout Cup also, thereby making it a treble 'Double', when they played at Carlisle Squash Club last weekend. Standing in their way were Penrith Squash Club Ladies, and with a much changed Windscale Cup team from last year (they were missing Hannah and Lynn Crichton, as well as Lara Cooper), a result looked anything but certain. When also taking into consideration that they were able to still field a team minus this seasons County Champion Linda Winder, as well as Barbara Telfer and Sharon Hoskins who have all played for the league team this season, it was a statement of their strength in depth at ladies level within the Windscale club that they could bring in other players of quality to fill the gaps.

New team members Lisa Powe, Megan Singleton and Margaret Thompson, joined last years' cup players Luisa McGregor and Jessica Winder in their bid to do the 'treble'. Megan was first on court and despite being nervous in her first major final, took a tight opening game 11-9; after this she settled down to win the next two games 9-2, 9-2, winning 3-0 to put Windscale one tie up. Lisa opened up 'on fire' and won the first two games 9-1, 9-2, before having to stave off a determined challenge by her opponent in the third game, but won it 10-8, for another 3-0 win to put Windscale two ties ahead. Luisa sealed the match for Windscale by winning 9-3, 9-3, 9-4, for another comfortable 3-0 win. Next on court was Margaret who was only to lose five points in her 3-0 victory, and with Jessica last on court, she wrapped up the match for the loss of only a solitary point in a dominant performance in her 3 games, to round off an impressive 5-0 match result to the Windscale Ladies.

The strength in depth of the Windscale Ladies was evident in this emphatic victory, and congratulations go to all members of the ladies squad who have again more than matched all before them throughout the season.
