Windscales youngest get the taste of travel
Tuesday 31 January 2012
18 Windscale juniors made the early morning start to Manchester at the weekend for an under 11 taster day at the National Squash Centre, Sportcity, Manchester, the home of England Squash and Racketball. With more than a quarter (17 out of 64) of all the North West juniors present it was a good opportunity for them to see the all glass court, as well as the other 6 courts and put their skills to the test against other juniors from the N W region that in time will be their junior circuit competitors.

In the morning session they were tested on 6 different skills, serving, return of serve, straight drives, volleying, racket skills and court sprints. Each test was scored individually and in the afternoon session the juniors were placed in equal ability groups following the morning test results, where they played a Point A Rally game to 7 points, hopefully putting into practice what the had learned in the morning. Although the afternoon session was all about fun and enjoyment, for the record here is how everyone 'shaped-up';
Zac Singleton 9th/64, Thomas Bragg12th, Tim Outhwaite 19th, Jake James 20th, Kaitlyn Carruthers 22nd, Sam Woolaghan 30th, Cameron Smale 34th, Ted Edge 38th, Grisha Mc Donald 39th, Dominic Mills 40th, James Penn 42nd, Ashton Telford 45th, Zara Brannon 46th, Sam Newby 51st, and Oliver Bragg 54th.
All the juniors, no matter what ability thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and looked very smart in their new 305 t-shirts.
With Linda Winder, Jessica Winder and Hannah Crichton as mentors to the juniors and assistants to the organisers, as well as all the parents for their help over the days events it was a great success, well done to all.
